The College of Business and Accountancy (CBA) of the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Pasig (PLP) proudly secured 1st Runner-Up in the Idea Hackathon Finals of the 3rd International Business Quiz and Sustain-A-Thon, with their innovative proposal, “GreenCycle: Turning Segregation into Innovation.”
Represented by Micko Miguel Boslon (BSBA), Matthew Daniel Dela Cruz (BSENT), and Rei Danielle Firma (BSA), the PLP team initially earned a Top 3 Finalist spot out of 11 participating schools from Oman, India, UAE, and the Philippines—ultimately becoming the sole Philippine school to advance to the finals.
The team’s proposal, GreenCycle, addresses Pasig City’s persistent waste segregation challenges through a tech-enabled system featuring QR-coded bins, AI-assisted garbage trucks, and a rewards-based mobile application. With its Trash-to-Trade incentive mechanism, households and businesses earn redeemable points for proper segregation, while violations result in point deductions and potential non-collection.
Beyond promoting responsible waste management, GreenCycle advances a circular economy, provides real-time waste analytics, contributes to cleaner waterways, and supports the creation of green livelihood opportunities. The project strongly aligns with SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) and contributes to SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-Being), SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), and SDG 13 (Climate Action).
This recognition underscores PLP’s steadfast commitment to innovation, sustainability, and academic excellence on the international stage.
