Mission & Vision

Mission

The College of Arts and Sciences promotes human development, holistic learning, instills relevant knowledge, develops competencies and well-being through high quality education. The Psychology program in this college is committed to engaging in psychological research and exposing the student to the different fields of psychology such as psychological assessment of different behavior and therapeutic interventions.

 

Vision

The College of Arts and Sciences is a servicing college in all General Education courses of the university. It envisions the students to strengthen their ability in the different areas of knowledge integrate these ideas from multiple perspectives. Likewise, the college envisions producing graduates of Psychology who will excel in the field of research, assessment, and therapeutic interventions confidently committed to serving the local, national and global communities.

Goals

  • To become the servicing college of all General Education courses.
  • To prepare students with the 21st century skills especially on critical thinking, creativity, communication and collaboration.
  • To produce graduates strong in their global outlook, cultural identity, and social responsibility.
S.W.O.T Analysis

Strengths

    • Academic preparations and specialization among faculty members are compliant with the CHED requirements.
    • The College has faculty members who attended and completed trainings of the different New General Education Courses (CMO. No. 20 s 2013).
    • Budget allocation for college activities; seminar, research.
    • Collaboration and full support from CAS faculty in terms of proposing potential college activities, research topics, etc.
    • The concept of seed banking strength, with the application of it, we are making it more concrete by introducing it to students and potential activity to link with selected Barangays.

 

Weaknesses

    • CAS lacks full-time faculty to teach English and Mathematics subjects.
    • No provision yet for an ideal and CHED-compliant Psych-Lab
    • No provision for the audio-visual room for the college.
    • Insufficient number of full-time faculty in the social science and humanities area.
    • Limited reference materials, research journals, articles, books, references.
    • Failure to utilize the budget allocated for the research project.
    • No permanent storage facility, just a makeshift part of the CAS office.

 

Opportunities

    • Financial assistance is available from the City Government and CHED for faculty who wish to continue and pursue their graduate studies.
    • Upcoming seminars and trainings sponsored by CHED and other recognized institutions and organizations
    • Initiative and plans of the University- Life Long Education on faculty development
    • Promotion of qualified personnel (teaching and non-teaching)
    • Support from the local government and administration
    • Have the convenience and probability to create one’s own distinct course identity
    • Networking outside of LGU, with companies, organizations, etc.
    • Trends in the field of psychology
    • Training and seminar on research conducted by the University Research Office.
    • The results of the research could later be used to run a college extension program or activity.

 

Threats

    • Untimely or unexpected resignation of part time faculty during the semester.
    • Delayed procurement of necessary instructional materials and equipment.
    • Delayed approval of appointment of prospective/incoming full-time faculty.
    • Given the faculty’s official teaching load, there is little time for research.
    • Over work
    • Possible delay of the release of the budget
    • Disapproval of the proposed research topic may be the cause of the delay to official conduct college research
    • Respondents’ cooperation and participation in the conduct of research
